Re: Armidale via Thundabolts way #ride4mik
Great read and well done. I drove almost the exact reverse (Armidale through Thunderbolts Way) about a week ago on a camping trip, a beautiful road and a top (but tough) ride.

Bowral Classic - worth the money?
Hi all - like many of you I received an invitation to do an 'early bird' entry to this year's Bowral Classic - $195 for the 160km route if you register before 14 May. I enjoyed it in 2016 (it was my first ever event) but thought I'd ask ... why not just do an 'unofficial' version of it on a differen...

Our club challenges and direction
I read an interesting article in Bicycling Australia magazine this week, where a bunch of club presidents were surveyed on a range of topics about the direction of their club and the challenges they face. It made me feel a bit bad that I know so little about our club direction and challenges apart f...

Re: Breakfast before training rides?
Interesting to see the different approaches, thanks for the input. I'm currently trying two different "regimes" ... - for mid-week rides: nothing to eat prior, water only during ride, muesli + Greek yoghurt breakfast after. Rationale is that the body has enough stored carbs for ~40 mins, r...

Re: Breakfast before training rides?
Thanks for the tips ... think I'll experiment a little more. Have shifted to natural muesli + Greek yoghurt for pre-ride, and and am going to try some different power bars (I've been pretty lazy and grabbed ones from the supermarket, and they look to me to be protein / weightlifting rather than ener...

Breakfast before training rides?
Hi there Curious to know whether most people skip breakfast before doing the standard DHBC training rides, or even on longer adventure rides. I've always had something light - like a bit of toast with honey - before heading off, with a banana or half a power bar mid-way at Waterfall. I'll have somet...

I hope they don't simplify the law, as the 'simplification' will be to make the use of any form of bike path / lane / shared path mandatory for cyclists. Imagine our bunch rides being forced to use the separated bike path on Carrington Rd! I once rode in the Carrington St path when I returned solo a...

I know of 2 others (non-club) looking for shared accommodation if we need more to fill.
What's the normal etiquette here, does everyone stump-up up front, or does some one (eg. Eleri) pay the deposit and carry the risk

I'm planning to get a place or places in Jindabyne where it starts and finishes. No point driving to the start! Eleri - it starts at the Crackenback ski tube, finishes at the Smiggins Hole end of the ski tube ... presumably they shuttle you back on it: http://letapeaustralia.com/wp-content/uploads/...

Where do people stay for this race ... do they stay Jindabyne or Thredbo and then drive? There's not a lot in Crackenback itself, the following are two examples ... there are much cheaper places in Thredbo 4 pax @ about $125 each (for 2 nights) http://www.stayz.com.au/accommodation/nsw/snowy-mountai...

Sorry, didn't see your request! In all honesty, it sounded so bizarre that I wrote it off as the cyclist misunderstanding what the policeman was saying, or me misunderstanding how the cyclist was retelling it.Sim, are you ok with your story above being quoted by Bikesydney?

Thanks for the recommendation, I will check them out. And I have the une...

Thanks all.
I agree with your advice Stuart, the best next step for me is a more moderate distance (~130-150km) before I try to crack something like the Peaks.
Maybe a goal for 2017

Thanks all, great advice, have to give some serious thought about whether I can put in that much training ... Freeing up the time is the biggest factor.
I did a 75k / 1200m climb ride today and felt well spent, so it has certainly given me pause for thought.

Re: need a bike fit....Any recommendations???
I'll throw in my recommendation for Velofix. After getting repeated lower back soreness on longer rides, a bike fit from James (a fellow DHBC member) has seen it completely disappear thanks mainly to a newer saddle, lower drop, and forward position. Shoe inserts have also helped with arch support. V...
