Google has switched on elevation profiles when you use Google Maps to plot a cycling route. Desktop only for now.

It doesn't work on every route, but when it does it is pretty cool.

Not live yet, but the schtick seems to be that this is an RPG in which you have to ride - in real time - between the places you have adventures.
For the RPG nerds out there this could be a marvellous way to get some training done. And splatter a laptop with sweat.

So if you are thinking of buying a rack, order the plate before you buy the rack so you are covered from day one.
