2017/2018 President's Report
DHBC President’s report 2018 Simon Sharwood, May 11th, 2018 I’d like to start by thanking everyone who volunteered for the club this year. By my rough count nearly 100 members gave some of their time for the club. Either at our events, or leading rides, or on the committee, or coming here tonight to...

Attention Middies and Fasties Waterfall riders: on Sunday February 18th and Sunday February 25th the club hopes you'll leave at 06:00 instead of 06:30. Free entry to Spring Cycle for a very good cause
Anybody want to ride the Spring Cycle? Freedom Wheels, the charity of this year's event, has free entries if you can fund-raise for their very worthy cause: they build bikes for differently-abled kids who struggle to walk, but can ride. They hope we can get a team together. It's a mass participation...

My $0.05. Last week, a bloke ran a stop sign and hit my car. We're insured, so its not a major hassle.* I called the police. They aren't interested. Hey all - I've been whacked by a virus and doing the Gongride has not been recommended as a sensible recovery option.
So I have an entry to sell if anyone missed out.

A colleague of mine has told me that the Sri Venkateswara Temple at Helensburgh ( http://www.svtsydney.org/ ) does the best and most authentic Indian food in all of Sydney and that its canteen is open on weekends. Anyone else feel like a curry adventure ride? In at Waterfall, out at Lawrence Hargrea...

Re: Bike buisness?
My understanding is that bike shops used to make a modest margin on bikes and then cream it on accessories. Many services weren't needed - but were a way to get you back into a store. The accessory market has been blown away by online competition. An example: Cranks in North Sydney charges $11 for a...

Re: DANGERS OF CARRYING YOUR BIKES ON A CAR RACK
The other trick for young players is that it takes about 2-3 weeks for the RTA's bike rack plates to arrive.
So if you are thinking of buying a rack, order the plate before you buy the rack so you are covered from day one.

Bike-tracking app uploads ride data to government
Hey all, Bicycle Victoria has produced a 'this is where I rode' app for the iPhone with a difference. It collects data and BV will send it to government to give them more data about who rides where and when so they can plan better infrastructure. http://www.bv.com.au/general/ride-to-work/91481/ I'm ...

vmware helps you turn one real computer into several pretend computers, which is rather more efficient.
pretend computers are called 'virtual machines', hence VM hence VMware.

A confession: I used to do Microsoft PR (ducks) and was on the team when they introduced what was called licensing 6 about 10 years ago. FWIW I reckon we could create a bit of a club calendar, and pick a weekend of the month for crits and different weekends for adventure rides.
So the first weekend of the month could be crits, the last adventure rides and a guaranteed Waterfall in-between.

The challenge was there for all.
Only I dared to take it.
The rest of you declined to even face me.
I am, therefore, club champion.
I may at some future point defend the title.

Re: WHat to do with old tyres and tubes?
700x23 tubes make awesome ties for tomato vines. They're broad enough that they don't crush the branches but can still bind them to a stake quite tightly. I'd call a car tyre shop and see if they would take bike tyres too - car tyres are recycled under a compulsory scheme and end up as 'soft fall', ...

Cronulla is a nice ride in its own right. Turn left off Taren Point Road at Captain Cook Drive and keep going all the way to Kurnell.
