Actually it's not hand size so much as the amount of "force" that needs to be applied. and the subsequent action on the bike. "every action has an equal and opposite reaction" kind of thing. Downtube shifters had some advantages from that point of view. Many disadvantages too.

I'd like high end fancy stuff, that's cut to suit my shapely but tiny body (although less shapely and less tiny than Trouty).
I've got a wardrobe of lovely, fancy kit but end up wearing DHBC kit nearly all the time. Might as well combine the two.

Yeah 650B is the midgets' version of a mtb 29er. Nope - it's a 650c and I can get caught in a tram track with all the rest of you.Learn something new every day James:
650B is 584mm diameter, 650C is 571mm, so 13mm, or about 1/2 inch.

That nasty pothole on the final sprint will be coned. It's got a water main access point or something. But the road is wide enough.
I think we can get the holes patched and that corner before the final climb - yes, it's got a culvert that nothing can be done about, except slow down or something.

I have Shimano Ultegra on one bike and Ultegra Di2 on another. I love Di2 - because I'm lazy and it never needs adjustment. Also, shifting onto the big ring with manual gears was sometimes hard. Be careful on the turn into Weekes on the way up. There's a culvert we'll have to mark.

Ultremos are my favourite tyre and I ride them all the time.
I've done about 22,000 km and am on my 3rd set of tyres so they appear to be more durable (for lightweights) than you might expect of a soft compound. They definitely grip better than Gatorskins, especially in the wet.

SUVelo racing - Heffron Park Sunday 15th June
Racing on a Heffron this Sunday morning
C and D Men and Women will race at 7.30, A and B Men will race from 8.30. Sign-on is from 7am. $10 entry for all grades, $33 for day licences.
I'm probably heading over from the cafe at 6:30am if anyone wants to join me. Takes half an hour easy.

Re: Sydney Road Titles - Saturday 31st May - entires close
Things are looking up for women's cycling! This year they split the women's masters into 3 bunches. I rode in the WMAS5/6 Combined. Trouty was in WMAS3/4 and started a minute or two ahead of us. Our bunch got organised after the 3rd lap when we had the 3/4s in our sight. We agreed to work together a...

Centennial Park Road Works 3-6th June 2014
Carrington Drive in Centennial Park is being resurfaced between 3rd and 6th June and will therefore be closed. That's the road between Paddington and Woollahra Gates and is where people do the "hill" - it shouldn't affect Saturday Slowies but might impact on you if you were planning on som...

He's still not able to have visitors but hopefully in the next few weeks. I've offered the club's full support.

Re: FTP Testing
W/kg reference is based on one's physical weight, not with the bike. It is? That seems illogical to me. Anyway if that's the case, then mine was 3.6w/kg ... which makes it appear that I was putting out more watts/kg in July than Andrew is now. And makes me very good not good. Not sure I believe that.

Re: FTP Testing
Last year when I did Haute Route my FTP was about 195w. 3.1 w/kg (including the bike)
w/kg is important measure. 2 people might have the same FTP, the heavier one will be slower.

My track bike is 280mm from the centre of the BB to the ground and the cranks are 165mm.
If they sell it as a track bike I assume yours is OK. Definitely take the brakes off and put track bars on it.
