Hey Simon S., are you still up for a Kurnell trip this Sunday?

All welcome. We leave at 6.30 with the big boys, then peel off for Kurnell just before things start getting a bit nasty. Around 60km and flat.

Although now I've just realised that there might be some pretty compelling viewing on SBS early on Sunday morning, and the thought of being up again at 6 is not that attractive.

What better way to celebrate Cadel taking 2 mins off Sastre than by having an early morning ride??

Quite right; I will be filled with patriotic fervour should Cadel get up, and what better place to go than Cronulla.

The round trip is about 60km, with a break for coffee in the middle. And possibly a few unscheduled stops to consult maps if we have no Kurnell veterans coming.

From my place, Kurnell is about 64 round trip.

Easiest way to get there is to follow the normal Waterfall route to where Captain Cook Drive intersects with Taren Point Rd. This is just before the road kicks up to the Kingsway.

Turn left there, and then just follow the signs/road. You can't go too far wrong after that.

Thanks. I recall taking some seemingly obscure backstreets when I went before, but I was probably just following a wheel and not paying attention.

You can also turn at the bottom of the descent from the bridge, go through the break in the fence and then take the backstreets - which is maybe what you remember - see here for a map of where the cycleway along the broads next to the mangrove is >> http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Ta ... a-Cycleway

Gee those mapping sites are fantastic. However, when I went last time, I'm sure we did a big loop through Kurnell to the south end of Cronulla Beach. On this map, it looks like there's only one road in and out (Captain Cook Drive).

Well Jo & I are bailing on Waterfall tomorrow as we did Akuna Bay & West Head today with BRATs & we're looking forward to a Sunday sleep in - enjoy the ride.

I'll try to; it's going to be even colder at 6 tomorrow than it was this morning, if that's possible! Anyway, I'll certainly saddle up, Marion a starter as well, and anyone else who like to come.

I'm keen for a Kurnell next weekend (9/9, as I have a slow spin with my Dad this Sunday to La Perouse, via Cent Park, Bellevue hill and back if anyone wants in), perhaps with a climb into the NP included. I like the Kurnell ride because there is less traffic and fewer stoppages than on the Waterfall route, but of course it lacks the climb.
But if one goes into the NP and up to the cliffs, there is a smallish climb and, of course, some rather stunning scenery.
This route http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Kurnell-Whale-Hunt shows most of it, clocked at 65kms from Wolli Creek.

Do you mean this coming weekend? After Slowies and the Omnium on Saturday, I might be a bit bicycled-out, if that is not a heresy.

Oh well, count me. I really hope that spring has sprung by then, because all this cold weather is starting to get on my nerves.

If you're talking August 10, which you seem to be, do not forget, Ted, that at this stage you have birthday lunch to attend at noon.

I'd've come, but am sick as usual. The kids give it to each other, who gives it to me, who gives it to my wife, who gives it to the kids, who ... you get the idea.

Maybe you'll have perked up by next Sunday. One thing I didn't consider when cheerfully replying above is that we'll have the Omnium on Saturday afternoon (did I hear that you're snagged a new track bike?). Aside from a vague desire to kick Camilla's butt when she gets back from OS, I have no real reason to go cycling three times in one weekend.

We're going away this weekend, but I might get a MTB session in.

Yes, but with all the discussion of rippling thighs on the Track page, I might come under suspicion even if I go on a boys night out (btw a quick a dirty measurement just now in my office suggests to me that I might have all you blokes covered, but how much is muscle and how much the result of various Tours de Fromage remains to be calculated).

Well you've hidden that little piece of information nicely Ted. I somehow can't see the monster sprint boys tapping into the Sunday Step-Up page. I had considered measuring my own thighs but after viewing those horror how-to shots was completely put off the idea. And what, btw, was your number?

Well, I'll have to get back to you with a final number. And think about whether it should remain classified. Since I didn't want someone to blunder into my office when I had my pants around my knees and a tape-measure in my hand, the measurement would have to be regarded as fairly approximate.

After last weekend, maybe there'll be enough cases of cabin-fever around the DHBC that we can get a quorum for Sunday to Kurnell. They're predicting 24 degrees for Sunday, almost swimming-at-Cronulla weather. Then again, this far out they were predicting 18 and dry for Saturday, yet we ended up with 13 and torrents.

Yes but Sunday was great and Dan did Waterfall, including one flat and a thrown chain - so were you on daddies day duty Ted or ??? This weekend Jo & I are off to Canberra with brother 1 to see brother 2 and to do a day's riding the bike paths together and enjoying lunch in Kingston so we'll miss slowies & Waterfall - enjoy Kurnell or should that be a trip to Sutherland servo if you're to step right up to Waterfall by Camilla's return?

When I went to bed on Saturday night I did not imagine, given prevailing conditions, that anyone would be riding on Sunday morning. Was therefore a bit taken aback of be met by bright sunshine. So sorry about that Dan. You probably weren't happy to be going to Waterfall at 6.30, but by 10 at Bobo's it hopefully looked like a good thing in retrospect.

Hey Ted - No disrespect intended! Just trying to encourage and I can assure you that when I awoke on Sun morning I wished I heard the drip, drip, drip of the downpipe rain alert and then I could have stayed in bed!

Cool, and with Camilla giving me the wiggling finger instead of you, we are all safe for that boys night out, cos wiggling finger only work on partners, unless it gets you in the eye, or somewhere else if she's really short.

So, we've got a definite quorum for Kurnell tomorrow, 4-6 people by the sound of it. All welcome, leaving 6.30 from Mick Mazza's.

Anyone up for a Kurnell this Sunday, Oct 12th? Maybe with quick climb into the park?
I'm too unfit for waterfall right now!

I reckon I could be, and of course someone needs to be there to witness your debut for the 2008/2009 season. Unless my slightly dodgy back blows up after Slowies, I will be there.
