Hey guys since it's the long weekend and there's not much else to do except clock up some km's, drink some coffee and eat a few steak sandwiches, I've decided that we should ride to the gong and back this Saturday!

I plan to ride down to the brewery under win stadium, have something to drink, eat something and then ride back via the coffee shop/s. it will be about a 180km round trip. 6:30- 6:45am start as usual and we should be back around 2pm by my guessing.

So far I think we have about 4 starters, I don't plan for the pace to be too slow as it will take too long but I don't plan to blitz it either & I do like to stop a few times on these long rides to increase sustainance and enjoyment. So come along for some fun this Saturday!!!!

At this point I'm in. Then we get to back up for the Central Coast ride on Sunday.

I'm in. I'll try to keep up. There's a possibility I might have to jump on a train at some point along the way, but I'm going to give it my best shot.

im there, but you have to all realise that im a very picky rider with who i ride with, and that i will expect you all to fill out personality quiz forms before i ride with you. If i hear any yelling or swearing ive got a bunch of batteries to throw at you.

I'd love to come along, but Saturday is my last full day in Sydney for a while. So as a result, I need a fair amount of time to get ready for travel.

Well, I was completely up for it when Simon mentioned it to me last night ... but, Timmy, I'm not sure I can go a full 180km and stay within your acceptable personality range. Oh, what the he**, I'll come anyway. I'm good and paperwork and even better at ducking projectiles.

Damn, where's my new bike though? Oops. Did I just swear?

I'll get Tim to use up all him ammunition in the first 10kms to spare us the rest of the way.

Thanks Christian. You won't even have to duck, such a challenging target. The subtlest of sways and the battery will fly right past.

I need to do a few long rides. Hardly been out at all lately, but this Saturday is the Sydney Tweed Run so I'm already booked, and I'm taking my 1960s Hercules Balmoral roadster around the streets of town.

As i posted in the Team Time trial thread, are we still up for the time trial practise ride on sunday? If so we should finalise detail for that as well.

Yes it is!

Got up this morning, went looking for my tweed jacket. couln't find it so I cobbled together an outfit based on a dapper brown 3-piece suit with lovely waistcoat. Was just about to jump on my bike and ride over to Town Hall when I decided to confirm the event details again.

Thankfully I did, otherwise I would have been all alone in a rather silly outfit in the middle of the city.

Well... Today marked 2 months since I started riding. What a way to celebrate!

I managed to complete the ride there and back (just under 180km), but didn't manage to stay with the group. So my feelings about the day are a mixture of achievement and failure. Thanks Tim for hanging back with me. I dunno if I could have climbed back through the park if I was on my lonesome... Even if I was extremely quiet and probably a bit grumpy for some of it! Sorry :(

Thanks for organising the ride Simon. I definately want to do it again. Maybe in another 2 months to see if I've improved :)

We didn't come back through the park, we took the old Princess highway back to Waterfall. Both John and James cracked, James managed to get it back together, John was not so lucky, the train was required.

Well I'm glad I didn't stick with you guys then, because I probably would have been tempted to jump on that train if someone else was.

Impressive ride Orphic! Most people take at least a year of build up to crack that imperial century. Congrats!

Haha... Surely it doesn't count when there's a 2 hour beer stop half way?

Still, that's 100+ miles in one day and is an achievement not to be sneezed at. You can tick that imperial century box and take a breather. It's audax rides after that.

In any case, you are ready for the annual return Gong ride in Team DHBC later this year.

With the benefit of hindsight, a liquid lunch probably wasn't a good idea.
After climbing out of Stanwell park my legs just turned to jelly :(

On the plus side though, I did manage to squeeze in a nap on the train.

A small group of DHBC riders does the 'Gong Ride' round trip every year. Given it's in Nov, it tends to be quite tough on the return leg due to the sun and heat.

oops sorry didnt mean to say that your ride wasnt tough, was just pointing out that i think what orphic did today would be similar, and not actually a lesser feat.

The original comment was just to say that she is ready to join 'Team DHBC' for the annual event.

Same thing happened to me while climbing out of Stanwell. I had to stop and eat before I could go on. My reservations about having that pint were correct... Lucky it was a mighty tasty ale and well worth it ;)

For me, the extra time in that 2hr break meant i probably should have eaten a little more, so my legs decided to go into power saving mode up the little hills after stanwell tops. After the short stop at Waterfall my legs seemed to improve again, so i didn't have a problem after Sutherland.

But, the beer was nice and tasty.

Sorry I ditched you guys. Had a biological. Coming into Stanwell Tops my knee was just screaming. I couldn't even ride downhill without significant pain. The ashtray therapy in the Harp Hotel fixed my ITB but clearly transferred the problem to elsewhere deeper in my knee and it just exploded.

A real shame because apart from that I was feeling fine and looking forward to that big climb. I made the right decision though because I could barely walk yesterday. It seems to be much better today so perhaps I'll give it a tentative outing at the track tonight. But what timing, with RAW so close and me finally getting all my work done so as to be able to ride more again! Guess I went too hard too fast.

But a great day nonetheless. I still got 120km in and a couple of nice beers and had a lot of fun along the way. Thanks for a top day out Simon. And congratulations Orphic - an impressive achievement!
