Did D grade and managed to finish with the bunch, but just couldn't get past anyone in the final sprint. My legs were gone. Thanks to Geoff M who was my racing coach for the afternoon. Geoff and David did the majority of the work on the front in D grade and a number of people commented on that.
I did what I could, but I was well spent (particularly after following one of Geoff's attacks) and had to sit in for much of it.
I think we averaged around 32-33km/h.

got a rear flat with 2 laps to go.
felt really good was moving up on the 2 last lap and was about 4th or 5th wheel and flatted the corner before the squircle.

We had Will and myself in B grade today, we averaged 37 and a bit km/h. I put in a little bit of work on the front closing some gaps, one was when we passed D grade, Geoff yelled out as I went past. Good to see Will moving up the grades. Both of use were still there for the final sprint, I think I came in about 10th, Will was in the top 10.
B grade sure is alot more taxing than C.. something i'll just have to suck up I guess! Hung on the back for a bit(just!) and checked out the scenery, but there is only so long one can stand the sight of other men in lycra.. got back up the pointy end and came 5th or 6th in the sprint.

LOL Micklan, I actually had a solitary left calf cramp on the front straight.
My report.
The objective of doing my first non DHBC crit this year, was preparation for the world masters in October, I'd like to make the crit finals which means that I need to place in the first 9 in the heat.
Rock up and put my money down, I was curious as to which grade they would put me in, as I hadn't raced there this year and they put me in C
Sat in the middle of the bunch until the kid did his first break, where I moved myself up a bit in case there was split, but let them chase them down.
Next break was 2 riders and then Beanzy jumped across to make 3 so it was time to ride the group down, in case they got away.
Mid race was kinda boring, so it was time to do my training so the Waratah vet guy on the single speed and I did turns on the front for a while. Then a guy went off the front, so I chased him down but ran out of steam with about 10 meters to go and Michael Chidgey finished it off.
With 3 laps to go the kid did his 3rd go off the front and the race speeded up, for about a 1/2 lap I felt stressed, then it slowed down.
Coming down the front straight on the last but one lap, I went off the front and sprinted into the wind in an attempt to bridge the gap to the kid, but he had way too much lead, I played my card and lost.
On the final straight I was in the bunch that would sprint for 3rd, but I couldn't be a***d sprinting for 3rd so I let them go for it.
End result was that it was good training for the world masters, it gave me a good idea were I stood in crits. Would of preferred if it was a little more windy, I need windy training.

Well this was my first time in A grade and despite not having any warm up at all, and racing the night before, i managed to hang on for over half the race before final giving up. With the right prep before the race, im sure i could easly last the whole race and be compeditive.
This may sound silly - but in D grade you can tend to do more work than in C...that is more and longer turns at the pointy endWell that photo adequately depicts the amount of pain I was in. I was so tired when I got home that I was close to dozing off in the shower. C grade is a looooong way off for me.

I'd be willing to race the Fuji at Heffron if I could get a 14T with a free wheel, does such a beast exist?
