Hey all. Long time listner, first time caller...

You'll probably all know me as the guy who drops off the back every week on the Sunday group ride. You know, white bike, all the gear no idea. That's me.

Anyway. Thought it might be interesting to share some data my fancyshamcy computer (which is smarter than me) records. Basically to vindicate the fact that I'm not soft and just crap.

Today's Group Ride

Little worrying is my average heart rate is 179bpm and maximum is 205bpm. If anyone knows a good Doctor (or vet) it's probably something that when I remember I'd like to get checked out.

We had a pace line going with a few guys we jumped in with on the way back, me having been dropped by the bunch and Chris sitting up to give me a wheel back home. We hit 68.2kph heading back in to Sutherland.

How do you measure all that? [:o]
One of the good indicators of your cardio fitness is how quickly your heart rate drops after you stop intense workout. If it drops by 40-50bpm in a min, i.e., drops from 180 to 130-140, then you have a strong cardio system. If it drops by less than 20, then you need to get worried.

I've got one of these Garmin things that tells me when I'm lost and allows me to control nuclear warheads from the headstem of my bike. I think it's got Space Invaders on it somewhere too.

It does heart rate, cadence, speed, gradient, has a GPS and all that malarky. I got it because it goes beep. You can get a power meter for it too, SRM do one for about $1500. Don't have one of them... Yet...

I'm out in the morning so I'll have a check on how fast my heart rate drops. On Monday I went for a spin and get up to 212bpm, but that was climbing my arch nemesis; the Cook Bridge.

Nice! Do you have Garmin 305 or 705? I considering to purchase 705 for Le tour de Disneyland, as it is a fairly long course on a GPS screen would be helpful. But do they come with Australian maps on it? Or can you download Australian maps to be used with GPS?

From what i know, you'll be able to get maps for it. Of course, you'll probably need to recharge it each night.

I've got a 705. They've got a pretty good battey life, and if you know what you're doing you can crack them in a couple minutes, so no need to purchase the maps.

My brothers has the cracked maps on it, I've put a basic map on mine but don't use the GPS so haven't bothered cracking my own.
