Hi,

Given the momentus events happening in Sydney, that many cars won't be there on Friday, and many of the roads are clearways, I thought, what a great opportunity to reclaim the streets of Sydney and do bunch riding and hopefully wave at George, Vladmir etc at the same time.

The roads are completely clearway and fairly clear down at The Hungry Mile at Darling Harbour through to Pier 1 and the Rocks. So I'm going to check it out tomorrow on my bike and report back.

This circuit alone is about 4kms and we could do 10 loops.

Thinking of leaving at 6.30am on Friday from usual place.

Bring your flack jacket, just in case there are a few paranoid CIA agents.

Anyone interested?

(I will confirm by Thursday lunch)

I'll probably float somewhere around there, especially if they close out my usual route across the city (King St) towards Centennial Park. What time will you guys get there? I hear that there'll be a huge protest march on Sat around King and George, don't want to get accidentally washed off the road by a water canon.

There'll be heavy police presence along Hickson Rd on the wharf as I've seen some APEC related setup last Sat.

I note that GWB travelled via Hickson Rd and Sussex St to Darling Harbour this morning. So I wouldn't be surprised if there'll be some disruptions at the southern end. One can always do return laps just on Hickson Rd.

Anyway, I suspect the weather will be the greater factor of ride or no ride over this long w/e.

Ok I've just checked out 'The Hungry Mile' this morning.

Was a clearway from back of Westpac down to just before Pier1 where cars were allowed to be parked. Lots of police cars going up and down, but not too bad.

Just under Harbour Bridge it becomes one lane regulated by lights due to road work.

It's going to be a bit of a mixed training ride. Some good areas, and some areas of stopping and starting. But probably a bit of fun.

What an opportunity to ride Sydney with some freeways in place and limited traffic.

And thanks to Weiyun's link above, George may join us on a mountain bike and we can then ride the Tour of George 'alia

Let's depart at 6.30 at Mick Mazza's Friday. Anyone with ideas of where else to go after The Hungry Mile is encouraged to come. Weiyun, perhaps you could meet up with us.

I will email you my mobile.

Wear club colours if possible.

Ok, I'll try to meet up with you guys weather permitting. The loop around the top of Ultimo would also be quite good, with a short nasty hill at the end of Harris St. We can also consider moving there should there be problems around Hickson Rd.

this weather is making me have second thoughts about my planned day of suffering. Hopefully it's fine for all of us, though i'm not sure if i'll really be dissapointed if it's not.

The Tour De Apec/George went well.

There were 5 of us including Weiyun who met us in sussex st. Me, Matt, Adrian and Eugen.

There was no traffic at all except for cops. We went around the Hungry Mile about 4 times. I got a flat outside of the Park Hyatt and we changed it whilst about 30 armed forces walked past us. Then we went over the Bridge to Kirribilli, had a coffee, returned, then went up George Street with some other cyclists. We were passed by the riot motorcade including the new watercannon truck. They were all shiney black like out of the Matrix.

And that was it.

George didn't come out to ride with us. That was disappointing.
