im heading out for this on sunday morning if anyone else is interested. Tim put me onto this as he is looking at racing it too.

Beaumont Road Criterium Road Racing
Northern Sydney Cycling Club has been running criterium road races at Beaumont road on sunday mornings and public holidays since the mid-80s. Affectionately known as the Beauie Worlds we usually have a healthy turn out of 60 to 100 racers spread out amongst four grades. This NSCC club race is part of the Northside Combine Program which incorporates 5 other northside clubs. Races are usually held every second week. Check the NSCC Events Calendar for the latest race dates. We also run a junior racing program for children under 15 years.

Registration: 7:45am
Race Briefing: 8:15am
Race Start: 8:20am

A Grade: 55 minutes + 2 laps (ave 41km/h+)
B Grade: 45 minutes + 2 laps (ave 39km/h)
C Grade: 35 minutes + 2 laps (ave 36km/h)
D Grade: 25 minutes + 2 laps (ave 34km/h)
Juniors: 20 minutes

Cost: $10 Seniors, $5 Juniors
Prize money: All grades paid for first 3 places paid pro rata

NOTE: You must present a Current ACF License to race and be wearing an Australian Standards helmet.

I raced b grade, blaming my crap back wheel for choosing the lower grade i sat in, and it was a nice pace, nothing too full on, have to learn how to rurn at those witches hats, so it was a great place to learn how to crit race, probably easier than heffron id say. I was in the sprint at the end, wasnt getting top three, so sat up for 6th or so. I need to learn to do those sprints so maybe should do more B grade till i start winning them?

i thought you were going to go for it Tim, you had a nice run at the end.

C grade was good not to cruisy but a higher pace than Heffron (and people actually worked). The two turns at each end were a big learning experience if you came in to hot you went wide and lost places, if you came in to slow people would go round the outside of you. Ended up winning C in a long sprint which started about 1000m out, plus i beat crafty as we was racing "To Lose Weight". Loved the course and the people i will defiantly be racing there again maybe in B grade with Tim.

no way man they are my good luck charm now.

AV speed was a bit over 37 with a proper sprint at the end. Distance not to sure but we did about 5 to 6 laps at about 4k's a lap.

I dunno if im doing this or not,im totally unfit at the moment for some reason, i keep getting warn out by little waterfall rides?! dunno if this means i need to do waterfall, or if maybe i should ride there and back or what.

Is this a criterium - if so it may help.
Its like a long time trial track with two corners ? I like to attack corners and thus I will be left baffled

its one road, not exactly sure hoe long, but ts mainly flat with turnable corners for the first half, then a bit of down hill, then a bit of flat, then more down hill. U turn on the road at both ends, so on the last lap, you have to come out of the turn on the road, then up a bit of hill, then some flat and slight hill, then cornery bits and final sprint. Id really say this race suits strong srpinters, as the up hill is nothing of note, and the corners are no challenge, its just the on the road turns that are a bit of a challenge.

Im unsure if I want to race this or not, will probably decide closer to the day.
I may even ride out there for the extra kms.

I reckon I will be doing waterfall as I will miss training ride the following week due to in Canberra and have entered for the MCCC the following week

man that was the nicest day!!
we road out there and back so got some training in, its 50 or so out there, but so cruisy that you wouldnt notice, and we road back with a heap of other clubs etc.

racing was cruisy, then a sprint at the end, me and alex both stuffed it up, alex went too early around the pack, i was still behind him by the time he stopped, but waited longer, then sprinted from 20 or so back, ending up in 5th. So yeah, no amazing results, but a nice day of riding

Amy and l are riding out and leaving from Mick Mazzas at 6:00.
l'm hoping there are some fast wheels to suck on the way out to conserve enough energy for the race
l'm doing W/fall tomorrow and will see if others are keen.

Also thinking of returning via the gorges if post-race energy/ recovery permits

Considering there would be increased traffic for the return ride l'm now going to drive to Hornsby station and ride out to Beaumont Rd. l'll be parking in Jersey Rd (on the western side of the rail line) and leaving with Toff and maybe others at 7:00.

After the race, Amy and l are now going to ride to Brooklyn and back if anyone is interested.

great racing, i was a bit warn for the sprint, after sitting on the back in a big gear, not sure about swapping down gears, then getting on and off a lot, but yeah im liking that club more each time i go, the organisers are heaps nice. And theres coffee!!

Agree - great cycling event vibe. Fast / hairy course due to parked cars, idling unoccupied trucks. Loved the hairpin turns then power down via carbon soles - very good outcome.
5th C grade, was boxed in and couldn't wind it up... Won $10 = cost neutral racing.

All I can say is that if Mark Lacey and Micklan could ride like they drive they would win every time. Try following them to and from the course in the car...Lacey never stuck to the speed limit once - and it was double points!! Still I guess I have to thank them for getting me there and home - even though I only have 4 license points left.

Congrats to Micklan on the 5th place and Anthony Platts-Bags for the 2nd in C grade. Chidgey took the plunge up to B grade which looked tough.

D grade was a non event with Hugo, Camilla, myself + 1 other in it. We had the option of riding the grade and taking a gauranteed podium, but opted to try and just latch on to C grade - but it was impossible being at the back at the hair pins. Still - we latched on to some rogue C and even a B grader and got a good ride in. Thanks Toff for the tow. My recommendation to any one starting to ride at Beaumont would be to start in C grade.

Still - it was a good day seeing a lot of DHBC red at the race. I could quote Kirk Cobain's album and say it was a classic case of "Smells like 'team' spirit". ah well Teen / Team close enough.

B grade report.

I was feeling a bit off colour and wondering what I was doing there. In the early laps I was burning a lot of energy off the turns and then I planted myself towards the front, but slowly worked backwards. There were a number people doing silly things to get forward and I didn't want to be apart of that. A grade crashed in front of us and we jammed on the brakes, then a bus decided to pulled out of a laneway and we had to hit the anchors again. A little latter I found myself towards the back with Tim, who was wearing a D grade number and Chidgey and then Chidgey did an good maneuver to plant himself towards the front, while Tim was suffering due to the problems he was having with his gearing.

Some idiot decided to park his car on the road with the hazard lights on, if 2 bunches had arrived at the same piece of road at the same time it would of been messy.

Last lap, I'm near the back and decide not to contest the finish, I see several riders cheat by overtaking on the wrong side of the road. Someone yells out numbers of those who are disqualified. Tim is not in a good position, but Chidgey is. Didn't see the finish, I rolled over about 100mtrs behind.

Anyone know what the average speed was?

Got a flat on the ride back to Hornsby, hit a small rock and flat spotted.

Found out on the way back that B grade completely filled out and some riders were told to ride A or C.

my report would be much the same as Mikes. Except i started to contest the sprint then ran out of juice. its hard work having to sprint out of every turn around for 200 metre's. was a great day out and the numbers were fantastic.

I had 38.6 kmph in C grade post race & had been resting for a few minutes before checking, I think Mark L has much the same

That's what people have posted on tour de mike, I'm more inclined to believe 38.6 as B didn't lap C

Forgot to mention, the cause of the crash in A grade was half wheeling

i forgot to mention what sort of coffee i had, cappuccino, half a sugar. Hmmmnnn or was it a whole suger on the day, it might have been a whole one.
