Fixie Century Bundanoon to Tempe

Just saw this on the DHBC home page and can't hardy stand how excited I am about it. Stopped working immediately and started checking bikely route profiles and considering gear ratios and training plans.

Is this real? Why haven't I heard about it before? Can I come? Will it hurt? Is there much interest? Where do i get my cabbage leaf?

1....its real the veldrome is booked and ready to roll.
2. its early days in them promotional side of things.
3. Probably...but in a good way...It will be a heap of fun.
4. Its building everyday...For sures so far are Grant, Lindsay, Huw, Adrian, Eugene but we expect LOTS more...will we see you there.
5. You will have to supply your own cabbage leaf...Banana Joes on Illawarra Rd is a good place to park your bike while you pick one up. Not sure why they are not carried at more bike shops...

I think for me i'll have to chose this or the team time trial. Though if the time trial finished early enough for me to get back home in time for work I could probably do both....

Just bought my new bottom bracket on ebay so fixie mark 2 is on its way. Whats the plan for accomodation at bundanoon? is everyone staying at one place? how soon do i need to book?

ok im not riding this, mainly because i dont want to ride sunday mornings at the moment because of the full day of church stuff i have on, and i cant really get that fit that quick any way!!

i have my sites set on becoming fast at one lap of tempe

Any thoughts on gearing? I had a look at some profiles for that route on bikely - lots of down hill but hard to tell what sort uphill sections.

Ill be riding 69 as my primary gear with a 48/21 (61) as a bail out for any big climbs.

If I"m off work and I"m able to ride, I"m taking a flip flop. My customary 81 inch or 79 inch in 700C terminology and a 66 or 64 inch. I just have to check the chain supports it. Any real climb we hit on a fixie it's not going to be the same as on a road bike because most people won't be comfortable on their gear selection because it's not like you have ten gears and you keep scrolling down as the gradient increases so your always comfortable... If you have to big a gear you have to slowly roll it over & if it is too small you will spin a bit faster....

True, I'm probably middle of the pack when it comes to big climbs, so even with the wrong gearing I still won't be miles behind on the climb.

I was just speaking to Peter Bundy (I've decided to go all out and get a refurbished frame and fork combo from him to build my fixie), and he wanted to know how to enter Tempetation, since he was considering riding it. He asked the date and was disappointed that it's on the same day as the Wollongong, since he's already committed to riding that. Otherwise, it sounded like he was very close to being a starter.

Word of Tempetation appears to have got around. Correctly or not, I told him that it would probably run next year, as part of the celebration of DHBC centenary. He reckoned that with enough lead time next year, there'd be people coming from across Australia to do it.

It is a novelty and I have seen similar responses elsewhere too.

Just wondered how widely was the flyers distributed? I know there's one on Mick's shop window. How about all the other bike shops around Sydney? How about those city couriers? Given that it'll be a further 4 weeks, there's still time for many to get involved.

Its technically possible to catch the train Sunday morning to the start.

We went selective rather than wide.
Tried the courier thing via Cheeky Transport as a lot of messengers shop there...you will note they have it in their window and on the Blog!
Want to try the concept this year and give it a good crack marketing wise next year! Thats why we have kept it on the same date as the Sydney to Gong.
If anybody is keen to distribute flyers to bike shops let me know- i can send you a PDF and you can print as many
as you want!
