I have entered a team sprint team in the Masters over 135 category. Only problem is that on one page they say the combined age is 135, and on the next page, they say it's 150. Have asked for clarification, but this may determine my team, which as of yesterday was me, Karzie and Lindsay. I may have to drop myself if it's 150. Anyone know how to get hold of Des Kidd to take my place (and guarantee DHBC a medal!!!)?

Pursuit-ititis. Common this time of year
I got clarification from CNSW today about the team sprint. Combined team age must not be below 135 years. This is good news, since it means I get to compete. I saw Camilla's team on the start list for the women's team sprint too. Agree I need to do some training. That will consist of riding to work on fixed gear twice a week.

I just emailed CNSW to tell them I'm NOT attending the NSW Masters Individual Pursuit Championships tonight. I'm in bed with the flu.
NSW Masters Scratch Race Championships on Sat looking doubtful. Hopefully I'm well enough for the points race on Sunday

Well done Jo. Nice equipment there too!
Since I'm racing in the team sprint on Sunday, can someone clarify what the situation is with handlers? Does Cycling NSW supply them, or do you supply your own, or do you have the option for this one?
Thanks...

All I know is that to be down in the infield you need to have a CA licence (for insurance) - they take it off you and give you a "handlers" pass and you have to pay - $10 a day on the weekend but I guess that if you don't have somebody to do it then they'll get somebody to do it. That's all I have.Well done Jo. Nice equipment there too! Since I'm racing in the team sprint on Sunday, can someone clarify what the situation is with handlers? yeah...can't tell you about the handlers, but I am sure they will have some on the day.Well done Jo. Nice equipment there too!

@ Stuart: photos when your Starting a 500TT are never very flattering!!
Good luck to Camilla and all the other DHBC pursuiters that competed today. Also - I believe one of our eldest DHBC members in MMAS10 got a silver on Thursday - Desmond Kidd. Ian Denker did a PB in his TT but I am not sure if he got on the podium. ANyway next year there definatly will be more DHBC Masters woman competing in this race - even if I have to drag them on the track kicking.
I had 3 goals doing the IP today: not to fall over coming out of the gate; to go under 3 minutes; and not to bring shame down upon my family. I achieved the first 2 (2:59! Yeah!) and hope Arthur will be able to tell me if I achieved the 3rd when next I see him. I was also pretty confidant I'd come last in my category (WMSA1-3 combined) and did that too, but others in the group were only 2 and 4 seconds faster so I was pretty happy. And there is plenty I can tweak for next time - sufficient tyre pressure, chain not so tight, bigger gear (yes I wimped out and went for the 90), train some more, get some disc wheels and funky handlebars, don't go to the pub the night before. Lots of room for improvement. All in all I had a great time, and it's excellent to have something to build from. The ladies I rode against are all fabulous too. Warm and encouraging. A great experience. I'll be there in the TT with you next year Jo!
And I do like the IP - it gives you time to talk to yourself and gauge what's going on. After getting out of the gate ok I got a bit excited and wobbly, so was saying "settle, settle..." by lap 2 it was "perhaps don't settle quite so much", lap 3 was "so this is going ok", lap 4 "perhaps I should have gone for the 92", lap 5 "half way there ... and you always get better as you go along", lap 5 "did I turn the stove off this morning after making coffee? What are the pretty bits of blue foam for?", lap 6 "la la la", lap 7 "legs hurting now", lap 8 "LAST ONE! You're going to make it! GO GO GO!"
I saw Mark L do his stint just before I left. He went out hard and was looking great, about to overtake his race partner on lap 5 (?). I went up to yell encouragement at him but noticed he had white lips, so thought it best to keep quiet and let him ride his own race. His pace slacked off a little and he never caught the guy, but still put in a very respectable time. Ian, Joshua and Matt were in warm-up phase, but I decided to beat the traffic home and left them to it.

Well done Camilla, Joanne.
Got a bit of a report from Mark;
Mark did 1.15 for the first 1,000 but faded and ended up with 2.42 for the 2,000.
Ian did 4.00 for the 3,000. a PB
Joshua did 3.38 for the 3,000 matching the team time last week
Matt missed out on 4th, where he would of gone for the bronze shootout by a fraction of a second

Well I'm feeling pretty disappointed, I'm missing the scratch race tonight and even if I'm able to race the points race tomorrow, my chances of taking a medal are gone. I felt I had a chance of taking a medal in the points race, but that's life.

If y'all could let me know results, I'll pull together a press release and get us some cred in the local papers.
PM me with results, quotes or whatever you want off your chest.

Desmond Kid who is a MMAS10 won a silver in the TT and I believe also a medal winner in the SPrint derby yesterday. Just a note: He didn't ride in uniform as his jersey zip has busted. I think if any of us are still riding in Masters 10 - we deserve to have the club donate a jersey to him...can we do it?If y'all could let me know results, I'll pull together a press release and get us some cred in the local papers.

Today I saw the boys do the team sprint for 135+. Lindsay did a great start, followed by Ian Karzie. Chris Toff lagged behind for half a lap but caught up soon enough and finished it off strongly on his tiny gear. No medal but it's not always about medals is it! I think it is the first time ever I have seen Lindsay on a track bike.
Camilla and I had more fun than we did last year, and it was all over too quickly (not due to our speed of course). Camilla did what we are calling a "well planned" fall at the start gates so we got a second chance via a false start - phew. Well done Cam!! We came 5th and missed the bronze medal fight off.
Points race: I surprisingly got in a 2 man break away and had a few laps of glory with another rider. Must learn to ride smarter and not do as much work as the stronger riders!! Anyway - 2 bridged the gap, and I dropped off waiting for the trailing group. I ended up getting 5th (I think) which was better than expected considering I didn't think I would finish.
The best Point's race story though, really has to go to Matt Wallman. I will get him to tell you the detailed race report but I saw the final points score and saw he came 4th. He looked pretty comfortable every time I looked at the race, but when I spoke to him at warm down he was dripping with sweat and admitted it was a hard slog. He proceeded to tell me he vomited twice through the race (and swallowed it!!). Now that is commitment !! THe pace looked pretty fast Matt so I reckon you should be ecstatic with 4th.
It would be good to see more DHBC entrants next year, especially in the Team stuff, and especially with us woman. This year they had to combine grades yet again due to low numbers in the woman's races but it does seem to get better every year. Anyway some girls from Goulburn and the Central coast have decided to organise an interclub woman's road race (probably in Goulburn) but us Sydney girls welcome. I don't think there will be any prize money but just the opportunity to get more of us racing - so stay tuned for more info on that ladies.

Vomited twice and swallowed it?????? EPIC.
Just a couple of little voms, nothing like what I remember from my mid- to late-teens when I suffered a mysterious series of stomach upsets on Friday and Saturday nights. It was my first points race but it won't be my last! I had a great time although I was grovelling by the time the last two sprints came around. I got all my points by leading sprints out, I just didn't have the oomph to get over the top of people otherwise.
