What is this thing?

Here's something Alan gave me... I'm not being a smartypants where I tease you guys with the mistery object, I really don't have a clue what it is or does.

It's a bicycle thingo, was made in Japan and is old, and by that I mean not of the CF generation (Have I just invented a new generation?).

Ideas anyone??

Could it mount to a brake bridge and sit across the rear as a safety device to ensure that the cars hit it before they hit you, a bit like those plastic flag thingies.

That would have to be up side down.

Weiyun - you've hit the nail on the head there... you can't mount it using the front brake right side up (according to the badge) because it's pressing on the front tyre.

Nagaoka.

They make resistance indoor trainers. I've already Googled without much success as to what Lindsay's component does. I wonder if they also make rollers.

It's for the track freak/pro Kieren rider who's got it all.

This is not a coat-hanger, but a genuine Nagaoka skinsuit-hanger!! It actually doesn't go on the bicycle, but is bolted to the wall in the cyclist's locker room, and used to hold the fresh-laundered skinsuit, with pre-lubed chamois. Each time the cyclist removes the garment, he will see that it has been hanging on a genuine approved lightweight Nagaoka-brand skinsuit-hanger, thus assuring him that his skinsuit has been in good hands, and therefore will not fail him in his quest for glory.

I think Huw has the best idea, i was thinking some sort of bke lighting rack, but just couldn't work it out, and didn't really think there was a place for it on a bike.

I was half serious; I don't really see how it fits on a bike and it does look an awful lot like a coat-hanger (I mean, NJS-approved skinsuit-hanger!).

Perhaps I went a bit too far with the spruiking?

Do you know, I think I might have finally worked out what this thing is!

Have a look at the picture below:



This item above looks remarkably similar, and the description for it is "handlebar bag rack, mounts w/ replacement stem bolt".

So I reckon our mystery object is also a bag rack, just big enough for a couple of spare tubes. The bar would either attach to the front of a quill stem, and hang just below the handlebars, or attach under the seat, with the hole bolting onto an attachment on the seat post.

In both cases, the size is pretty much right.
