So now that I am packing my life into boxes, I am forced to do some things that I have been putting off... Like dealing with the old has been tyres and tubes floating around in my gear room.
I have some tyres are really not usable anymore (teared sidewall etc) so I can't give them away or donate them - but what do I do with these? Is there some way of seeing these recycled? Same with old tubes where the valve has busted. It seems a real waste and not very environmentally friendly to see these go to landfill...
WHat to do with old tyres and tubes?

700x23 tubes make awesome ties for tomato vines. They're broad enough that they don't crush the branches but can still bind them to a stake quite tightly.
I'd call a car tyre shop and see if they would take bike tyres too - car tyres are recycled under a compulsory scheme and end up as 'soft fall', the coloured rubber stuff you see under kids playgrounds.
