unofficial KOM
So the universe just works.
i decided last week that hills were the thing for me. I love them, but haven't had time to train them. so last week i started doing hills! every chance i get i take the hilly route. At the office there was talk about different hills to do on the way in, or ones to hit to mix it up. Then the Awaba St Hill was mentioned. The lunch room went silent. I still have nightmares and cry over the last time i tried it (2 years ago, on my giant fixie 81'... i didn't make it). I said i will never try it again. And swiftly changed the conversation to other hills in the area.
Then this, http://www.twowheeltours.com.au/austral ... h-kom.html, was linked to my facebook. Fate had found me. The re-match is going to be fought. Me V/S ASH.
what can i say, i'm a sucker for pain…
who else is in?

Sounds painful, count me in.

No, gravity sucks, hills just give you a reason to work against it.You people are sick. Hills suck.

If you're ever in Pittsburgh, maybe you could give this one a go Lizanne. 37% gradient, and cobbles.

Oh! Let's do it! I love a bit of cheek. What's the date?
And I can't wait to see you ghost ride your roadie there on your fixie, lock one at the Balmoral Bathers, then take it in turns up the hill of truth. And by "see" I mean be in the vague vicinity thereof. Certainly by round 2 I'll be lolling in the sea and cheering gently from there.
Rhys: no.

It's great, I love it too. It looks harder to walk up than to ride, and I laughed out loud when I saw the guy attacking it with panniers!
Here is another really steep street. Next time I'm in NZ I might pay it a visit. Ahhhh, no I won't.

A DHBC double! Lizanne in the ladies and Alex D in the mens. On a fixie no less! I went first to give everyone something to beat and got to watch the all pain faces at the top Except for the guy who went second because he overtook me on the finish line
Special mention to Tom on a cleatless BMX. A technical DNF but he made a spectacular showing of it nonetheless, only coming off once. A really lovely event, with really lovely people. The sort of ones you see around the traps all the time but never quite meet properly - until today. I feel proud to have been among the first wave, because I get the feeling this event will one day be epic!

I think you're right Camilla, the event had all the makings of something really good. The small turnout was surprising, but there's always next year.
Here's Will's race report: http://www.twowheeltours.com.au/austral ... scene.html
My little theory that derailleurs only sap your strength is one notch closer to becoming a proven truth.

Possibly. Are you riding there?
Do come Philip! You'd be awesome at this.
I'm driving over to Cammeray to meet a friend, we'll ride over from there and then go for a training ride after. You're welcome to join in all or part of that. I may or may not have room in my car - will know later today.

The unofficial Awaba Street Hill Climb is on this Sunday morning. Camilla and I are going. Who else is in?
I heard a rumour that a well known Sydney knee surgeon was handing out business cards atop the hill.

In the Lady's, Camillia was the winner with Eleri Second
In the Men's Phillip was the winner with me 1/2 second behind
Interesting to note there was a 10 second discrepancy between the timing and Garmin, which makes me wonder about the accuracy of Garmin GPS

Umm, it was quite hard. Definitely queasy at the end of that ride. Whatever happened between starting off (in the big ring by accident) and the finish at the end is lost to me. I totally forgot the one thing I had to remember (my departure minute) every thing else was just pain.
Yes the strava times and the official times are different, however the start and finish places may well be different.
In any case, that was my fastest time on strava by 10 seconds.
DHBC retains the KOM and QOM! Congratulations Philip and Camilla!
