Tim Briers crashed
Hey Tim, very pleased to read your post. I was equally surprised that your first ride was to work, wow! See you soon down at the track.
Thanks everyone, I think I was the happiest I've been in months. The endorphin release is incredible. I will be down the track as soon as I can. Hopefully it doesn't rain tomorrow.
I felt good enough to ride home too. Went a lot better then the way in. Listened to my body a little more and didn't push as hard. The thing that hurt the most were my sit bones - they've become incredibly soft from the lack of riding. I swear my saddle wasn't this hard before.
Another thing I learnt is that it will be a while before I ride my commuter fixie to work. Really need those low little gears all the time. Out of the saddle climbing seems to be showing my severe lack of tricep muscles, and also the stabilising muscles around the shoulder. Pointed out where my physio exercise deficiencies are (or more where I haven't been as conscientious as is should be).
Feels great to have that all over cycling fatigue that I've lacked for so long, going to sleep well tonight.

Looking forward to it Jo!Excellent Timmy....this may be the only time I ever over take you.
The new bridge is great, used it again on the way home. Really removes that dangerous bottle neck.Great news Tim

In other news, a note saying my wiggle package had arrived was in the mail today. Got a replacement saddle for my crashed bike.
I can't believe it's been a year! It'll be great having you around the track again...Chidgey's back as well, it's like a family reunion!
I looked back and found my Garmin data from the ride. You can see exactly where the crashed happened and how fast you would have been going...above 60km/h easy. Good to have you back Tim...You'll me kicking my arse up Mt Kiera again in no time.

Good to hear Tim. I'll keep an eye out for you on the commute.
And yes, the new bridge is sooooooooooo much better than the hook turn or the dismount and stairs.

... i have an old squishy girly saddle. it's called 'diva' if you want to give your sit bones a treatThe thing that hurt the most were my sit bones - they've become incredibly soft from the lack of riding. I swear my saddle wasn't this hard before.
Went for a (late) ride with a mate around Centennial Park today. Feeling much better already. Spotted Ted & Mark L on the way as they returned with the Slowies group - looked like a good turnout. Pity about the road work going on near Redfern Station, ended up having to dismount and walk to get through.
Only did 5 laps in total, and I don't think I averaged faster then 25km/h during that period (didn't have my computer mounted). Feeling like I could have a nap now.

You are making me feel lazy driving around in the car all morning... (and getting stuck at the same spot in Redfern)
Nice riding Tim! Hope to see you in CP at some point. Keep it up.
It was so great to see you back out there at Slowies, back in DHBC red, back where it all began. I remember post-Slowies naps in the early days. But you'll have so much muscle-memory from all the riding you've done in the last few years that you'll be flying again in weeks.
Pumped up the tires and oiled the chain on my fixie today, then commuted to work. Certainly hurt a lot more then usual - 81" is a little big these days for my depleted muscles. Lilyfield road and Anzac bridge were my big hurdles, but weren't has hard has I imagined. I must be getting some fitness back already.
Felt good to make it, and managed to remember I was riding fixed the whole way too!

Small update as I haven't been around much.
Going in for shoulder surgery on my right tomorrow. Procedure is a endoscopic capsular release, with the possible removal of the plate & screws. Basically cleaning up some of the scarring around the shoulder, then manipulating it while I'm under general anaesthetic to increase my range of movement. If the plate is impinging then it will be removed, otherwise left in. Plate removal will mean 4 months off the bike due to bones being weak where the screws were.
Will be in hospital for 2-3 days depending on how it goes. They dedicate one day to surgery, another to physio, and a third if pain is too high (not liking the sound of that..). Then I guess its back to a whole lot more phsyio & hydrotherapy for a few months.

Another step in the right direction mate
Thanks for the well wishes.
Back home today. Surgery on Wednesday went very well and I stayed 2 nights in hospital. Doctor didn't end up needing to remove the plate & screws, so recovery should be much faster. I've gained approximately 30-35% more movement in my right shoulder now. Very impressed with the results so far. I got straight into physio yesterday, and have stretches and exercises I need to do 6 times a day. Pain has been nothing compared to when the injury occurred, I've barely required any relief so far. May take some panadol before bed.
