Valley Wheelers February Ride - 12 February (Johhny Warren)
So it looks like the Valley Wheelers have claimed the 2nd Sunday of each month to ride our retro steel...
Over coffee on Saturday, we suggested that we might get some old bikes out and form a contingent of riders to do the Johnny Warren Ride this year, since it falls on the 2nd Sunday of February.
It's a bit of a longer ride, and is probably a bit more than 100km from the Loftus start, so good legs will be needed as well as a good bike that can comfortably make the distance, but why not pull out your best retro bike to go on this ride? The pace will be relaxed, and there will be plenty of opportunities to admire the beautiful machines, both on the way down, and at the after-ride luncheon.
Early bird registrations are still open for a few more days, and lots of us are doing this ride already, as posted here.

In 2011, the 2nd Sunday has been the DHBC Adventure Rides, unless moved by consensus/lack of ride leader. That is set to continue in 2012. Maybe the 'Valley Wheelers' need to select another Sunday so as not to interfere with DHBC rides?
Not to put too fine a point on it, this is the DHBC website forum. Funded by DHBC members. Providing a 'Vintage Bikes' thread is very different to providing web space / forum and administration for promoting alternative rides for a selective group of riders. [incoming]... you could always ride a steel bike with us
If you guys can organise more than two or three of these a year, then we might come along....

Thought the so-called 'Valley Wheelers' are part of the DHBC. If not, shouldnt this be clarified in some way?
Stu has a very good point. I don't know that we'd consider ourselves to be subject to the jackboots of the establishment functionaries.Thought the so-called 'Valley Wheelers' are part of the DHBC. If not, shouldnt this be clarified in some way?
That said, the decision to have the ride on the 2nd sunday was made unconstitutionally and unilaterally by a couple of old blokes in a coffee shop who were probably 15k short of a cardiac arrest.
Seriously, this is all getting a bit too serious . People just want to have fun. Who cares who or what we call ourselves; we are still members of the DHBC. Whether some of us like or appreciate older bikes is immaterial.m
Karzie, was made ...... by a couple of old blokes in a coffee shop who were probably 15k short of a cardiac arrest.
Love it . Taken the liberty of using your quote in my signature.

Andy (Saro28 on the BNA forum) rode to Waterfall with the C25s on Sunday. I had a chat with him and he's keen to do Johnny Warren on something vintage (Italian, Mondonico?)
I'm still tossing up whether to ride from Marrickville or train it.
