WTB 12 tooth track cog

Hi all,

Wanted to borrow or buy a 12 tooth cog for the upcoming masters track champs in February.

Mike C has talked me into one race, just need to get my bike into the right gearing.

What BCD is the chain ring?

The crank is a crappy sugino, 130 bcd. 46 tooth. Was hoping to obtain a cog rather than the expensive route of new BB, crank and ring as I'm not likely to use more than a few times a year.

Doing some further research, looks like 12 tooth is possible but very rare. Looks like I'll be getting a bigger chainring (if I can find rings in 130bcd)

46 - 13 should be fine, that's about the same as 50 - 14. http://www.bikecalc.com/gear_inches

48 - 14 is probably the most common gear with some riding 49 - 14 or 50 - 14

I recall a few years back that Alan Whiteman (Fenpaddler) had a 13 lying around

130BCD is not so common. 144BCD is most widely used. I used to have some 135BCD (Miche) which are in the ACT with my dad and old bike.

Most riders run the largest chainring to largest cog for smoothness. I'd recommend working our what gear inch you want to run and work it out from there.

What event is this for?

From my research, 130BCD seems to only go on fixies. Sugino Messengers go up to 48t which is tiny. I dont see many options on Velodrome Shop or Alex Cycle.

I'm looking at a 97 inch for the masters champs in a few weeks time. I will be doing the team pursuit and then possibly the individual time trial, over 2000m and 3000m respectively.

My decision is purely based on what I own and the cheapest solution. I could ask to borrow cranks but then I might as well borrow all sorts of other things, including a proper bike

So what is the theory for large to large? Less friction?

Sprinters say it is smoother.

50x14 is 96in
51x14 is 98in

I'd personally go for the 96in if I was doing a longer endurance event. What is your target cadence? If you had a 14t cog i'd buy the 50t ring and stick with 96in. Not a bad gear for enduro events at DGV.


What cogs do you have already? Give me a bell and we can discuss. I could loan you some cogs if you need some depending what you need.
