I removed the stem off my old road bike commuter today to grease it, to get rid of the persistent creaking. I found out it was creaking due to the bottom 1.5cm of the stem (where the bolt moves inside to tighten/loosen it) being broken off, so I'm up for either a new-style stem with an (a/head?) converter, or a second hand quill stem.

Maybe a bit of a long shot, but does anybody have a longish (13-14cm) quill stem they want to sell?

Cheers,
Alan W

Are you after an 1 inch quill stem?

Most shops will have a few lying around and they're not too expensive (just give em a call). Or you might want talk to Lindsay.

Dunno. It's whatever was standard before the current style.

If i can find it, i've got a Cinelli 1R 14cm stem lying around somewhere that you can have. Is it the actual stem that's broken or just the bolt?

Yes it's the actual stem (bottom 1.5cm) that's broken.

If you manage to locate the cinelli stem that would be great - the broken one is a cinelli as well.

Alan

I've found a representative image, and circled the part that's broken off. Mine is identical except for being 14cm.

You are welcome to this 130mm stem if you want it.

It's no Cinelli. I think it's a Profile. A bit greasy, but almost new.

Let me know if you want it, and it's yours.

Brilliant - have PM'd you. Nicely oversized - I've always though the 14cm cinelli was too flexy.

I've found the cinelli stem, so let me know if toffs stem doesn't work out.

Thanks very much for that Chris. It fits very nicely and I noticed on the commute in this morning that the neck was significantly less flexible than the old one.

Alan

I'm up and running again now, but thanks for the offer anyway.

I may have a couple of other stems. I think I've got a 120mm 3TTT stem, and possibly a cheapo shorty... I'll get back to you after I check...

Also, Alan... Nicole and I got stuck into your wine last night with some takeaway pizza. Very nice. Thanks.
