Every third Monday of the Month at track training we plan to ride a 120 lap paceline at Tempe (Canterbury) Velodrome. Pace will be something between 40 and 50km/hr that everyone can maintain. Everyone who can ride a paceline on a velodrome is welcome. If you need to borrow a track bike, come early to get it sorted. Track opens 6.30pm

1000 laps might tempt the likes of Mr Bownes back to the track!

Looking forward to the first Mid-month Monday marathon at track this coming Monday, and then every 3rd Monday of the month. Riders who drop off the main paceline will form a second paceline above the once-was-blue line. Make sure you have a comfy saddle and maybe some chamois cream

No rain. Just 5 riders on a dry Tempe velodrome. We averaged almost 40km/h for 1 hr but I have some novel muscle aches as I'm sure the others do. Same again 3rd Monday of next month.

That was tough!! Thanks for organising it John, apart from the pain, it was an excellent hit out. I know what you mean my novel aches, my legs stopped turning at about the 75 lap mark and they're not happy now!!

This Monday is the 3rd Monday of the Month so we will hold another 120 lapper. Put on your most comfortable knicks and join us for a fairly high speed 40km with no traffic lights, potholes or even cars. Keeping an eye on the weather for now.

Reminder that tonight is the Monday night Marathon!
120 laps of Tempe velodrome. This is a good chance for strong riders who don't normally ride track to get some experience on a velodriome and clock up a few km.

Monday Marathon is on again tonight. Got tricked by the forecast into missing your Sunday ride? Here is a chance to catch up those kms. 40km of smooth paceline on Tempe Velodrome. What could be nicer? RBCC and SGCC riders still welcome

That was hard. We'll work out a way to keep the pace down a bit so more riders can complete the 120 laps. Maybe set a speed limit and encourage anyone with bundles of energy to lap the bunch after their turn on the front.

Totally agrree! Perhaps keep the pace at around 40kph for the first 100 laps then crank it up for the last 20

Yeah I hung on for about 75 laps and my gpx data shows a lot of those were well over 50km/hr. Another suggested way to even things out is to encourage the strongest riders to use a small gear.

Hi John, a chat with everyone before starting the ride would be great!!
I can't blame the other riders for my lack of fitness, but, the pace fluctuation killed everyone last monday.

The rules below are for road cycling but we can bring some of them to the track.

Yes a break for a quick briefing between warm up and starting is needed. And yes many of the suggestions for road pace-line apply.

Time for another 120-lap'er? Perhaps one angle of the pace control could be 60/90 laps below 40-42/45 and then either a free for all or the formation of a second group? Pace changes definitely aren't fun. Unless they only go up!

Maybe 42 max for first 60 laps and if you feel really strong and want to burn some bikkies take a lap after completing your turn on the front or stay on the front for a couple of laps. Weaker riders are free to do half laps or less on the front. If you drop off, form a second paceline above the almost invisible pacers line.

Didn't get enough Ks in on the weekend? Interested in doing some track? How about 120 smooth laps of Tempe Velodrome? Tonight from 7pm warm up from 6.30. Be there at 6.30 if you need to borrow a club track bike.
And a quiz. Which of the riders in the photo below was racing in the Club Challenge Super Italian Pursuit against Randwick Botany on Friday night?

The rain has mostly cleared out to sea, so the track should have time to dry out. 120 lap Marathoon starts at 7pm. All abilities welcome. There will be a second paceline formed as soon as people drop out. Ways to ensure everyone gets a good work-out include:
Hold the pace when you get to the front - don't surge or gradually slow down
Once you can no longer hold the pace, move to the slower pace line
If you are a stronger rider, put on a smaller gear and/or pull double laps.
Don't ride so fast that most of the riders get dropped
If you do take time out, don't accelerate the pace on the front when you join back in

120 lapper is on tonight. Each month this event has been smoother than before, helping us all to hang on. It helps if stronger riders put on a small gear.

This coming Monday night is the first Monday night Marathon 120 lapper (40 km) for the year and hopefully some of our new riders can join us. This is held each third Monday of the Month and is a 120 lap pace-line drill to build track endurance. The main pace-line is likely to travel at around 45 km/hr, so about an hour riding including warm-up. Everyone needs to concentrate on maintaining a constant pace, neither speeding up nor slowing down when on the front. This is not a race. Riders who drop off the main paceline need to organise themselves into a second slower paceline above the top blue line.

120 lapper tonight. For most people gearing something like 96 should work well.

Would anyone have a spare 13t or 14t cog I could borrow for the night? I'm still setting up my track bike and am waiting for an eBay delivery.
