Despite being a bit buggered from a hard workout at 'slowies' this morning, I'm still up for racing today.
Anyone else going?
Heffron 5 April
We have 5 DHBC riders at Heffron yesterday.
In E grade there was Strech and another guy (l don't know his name). The unknown rider (please add) made a break with about three laps to go and held on to win the sprint. I think Strech came in third.
In D grade, there was Chris Rissel, Matt (Bianchi)? and myself. In typical DHBC style, we were suckers for punishment doing a lot of work at the front for most of the race. The decisive moments came around lap 12 where Chris took an accidental stroll in the grass at the turn before the main straight. The confusion allowed Matt to get away for a substantial break. At the front of the bunch, I let Matt go for a bit to see if he'd get away, then began the tiresome work of catching up. Heading into the last lap two riders made a break on the main straight hooking onto the back of b grader who was passing us. I'm not sure if thats completely legit? Anyway, they got about 40m on us and it was an all in slog for the last lap. I was leading the chase for most of the lap. Matt rolled though to get 4th/5th and I came in around 5th/6th. Its all a bit of a blur really, but it was an enjoyable race.

Good effort, all five DHBCs! You seem to get the trick since I find racing gets easier with self confidence and sc in turn comes from a success. Sort of a catch22 but heavily biased in your favour since one success can last you for very long.
Yeah, by that stage I was dying a thousand deaths so it wouldn't have taken much to get back on my wheel. I have to say though that when I looked back down the straight I thought my break looked much longer than 40 metres! Wishful thinking...
We well and truly paid our dues in that race and it was frustrating to get rolled at the end by guys who'd never even been in the front half of the field let alone on the front (with the exception of the young guy on the other Bianchi) but I guess that's racing.
As Eugen says it's a learning experience and makes that first victory all the sweeter, I hope!
