There are some new Road Rules which are coming into effect soon.

The road rules affect bicycle riders.

These rules have some 'impact' on bunch riding so it is advisable for all member to make themselves aware.

You can view the rules on www.rta.nsw.gov.au

Look under rules regulations / road rules/australian road rules.

Don't finish horizontal.

As far as I read it on a separate link, the key difference relates to our ability to make hook turns. Of course, that depends on councils painting a few more "storage boxes" at key intersections.

I will need to practise my hook turns from storage boxes.

Looks like the RTA and Council's are preparing for more bike lanes and storage boxes as bicycle use is on the increase.

Don't finish Horizontal.

Apart from storage boxes, I hope they'll also extend their road sensors to those boxes. Or we can wait forever for the lights to change. :?

Don't forget that Unicycles are now classed as Wheeled Recreational Devices, so we can now ride them on the footpath.

After having read through them, I think they are going out of their way to make them deliberately obscure. I can also see why they say that motorists break the law every 12 seconds (or something ridiculous like that).

Not hard to believe. Just look at vehicle speed on all the major roads and 50 or 40kph residential roads.

A drawn box on the road, around the stop line on intersections.

Yes, a pretty weird term for what's it worth.

Toff said what is a bicycle storage area.

I thought a bicycle storage box was something you transported you bike in.

Hey toff Do you know what a hook turn is ?

We should practise some hook turns.

Don't finish horizontal

Yes, and I don't need to practice them since I have no plans to cycle in Melbourne.

Actually, one is coming at an intersection near you! Soon. :D

But seriously, hook turns are much safer for a cyclist at major intersections. It avoids crossing right hand lanes.

The last rule seems to be aimed at an activity that I won't describe on the DHBC forum.

Hey toff

How about some hill climbing at Centennial Park instead of the hook turns.

As Weiyun said it is only a matter of time for hook turns to be phased in here.

Don't finish horizontal.
