Mike

Can you be more specific. Are you after the pedals or the cleats? Road or Mountain Bike?

Pedals, they are for my fixie, so I want ones that are less likely to accidentally release.

The reason I want SPD's as I need SPD's for the indoor spin bikes, so if I commute on SPD's then I can use the same shoes for commuting and in the spin room.

I have some old road ones, but I think that the bearings are on the way out.

Anthony, James,

Can I take up both of your offers and then see which set fits my needs best?

The squeak from the existing ones is getting annoying. Knowing my luck with squeaks it will turn out to be something else LOL

Those SPD bearings can be serviced.

I have the old fashion SPD's that I scored of Geoffs. They were reputed to be of quality in their day. Do you think I should get them pulled apart and serviced?

Ask GeoffS. SPD pedals have a custom nut/bolt and requires a special tool to pull apart.

I'll check with Geoffs, but its beginning to sound like its more effort than its worth doing a rebuild. I can use the ones that Jimmy and Anthony have offered and keep my eyes out for some others, or for out a few $ for some new ones. Someone told me which new ones to go for, but I forget.

So perhaps I should borrow that tool off you and do the deed

LOL, this dried up, Geoff didn't find the special tool and Jimmy's SPD's turned out to be SPD_SL, such a stupid name. So time time to buy some SPD's. As they are going on a fixie I want ones that don't accidentally release. Any suggestions?
