Walking down Marrickville Road on Saturday night after some yummy Thai food, we were thinking of popping in to the local pub for a beer. We stopped halfway at the sounds of Reggae and Ska pumping from a shop across the road. Was it a private party? We headed over to check it out. I barely recognised the place. The inside looked familiar but the crowd much different. Coffee and lycra had been replaced with wine and turntables! This was Marrickville cafe with it's night clothes on!
The place was pumping. We asked if we could join in and we were greeted with open arms. We grabbed a bottle of wine and sat down to absorb the atmosphere. It's wasn't long until we were skanking on the footpath to the sounds of The Specials and feeling the rhythmic beats of Bob Marley. A quick drink turned into a couple of hours as we partied with the crowd.
So what is the deal? Apparently they are trialling one of those on-premises liquor licenses and had their opening night last Saturday night. 2 DJ's, wine by the glass or bottle and a few different bottled beers and tunes on request (as long as it's on vinyl).
The only setback is that it affects the sleep for the Sunday morning Waterfall ride, so if you were to head down check the weather forecast for rain the next day cause you could end up spending a few hours there!
