From Sydney Cyclist:
Cyclists beware - there are two crazy people driving around Sydney, who do NOT like cyclists. It's a dark red Mitsubishi sedan, their number plates are covered with cardboard with "TRAFFIC" written on in texta. Yesterday afternoon the guy on the right threw a battery at me, and then got out of the car and punched me. I suppose that's assault and battery?
N.B. I have reported this to the police. They're not hopeful of catching them, given they don't have any good images of their faces, or a car rego.
UPDATE: A friend of a friend said this car is sometimes parked in Petersham. Keep your eyes peeled in that area

According to the telegraph, the motorist is the victim, they must think that assault is perfectly acceptable

Call me paranoid, but I had a super close call with a similar vintage maroon Mitsubishi at the corner of Darling Drive and Quay St, Haymarket about 2 or 3 months ago.
I was cycling down Quay St and this car was waiting to turn into Darling Drive. They literally came at me as I crossed past them - missed me by inches. I didnt fall off, but stopped soon after but they just sped off.
Don't remember the licence plates being covered up.

The latest on the 'Traffic' driver from the Sydney Cyclist forum:

"Kicking myself. I am pretty sure I was hassled this morning by the male "Traffic" driver and I didn't realise till too late and therefore didn't take their rego. Grrrrr!
I have passed on the few details I could to the Newtown command and they will see what they can do. I will also report it to the Woollhara police as I was going through Paddington at the time. Perhaps they live in the Eastern suburbs, not the inner west.
The incident: I was going down Oxford St hill past the Barracks and he pulled in front of me suddenly, stopped, and put on his hazard lights. I had to veer suddenly to the right to avoid him (not much traffic fortunately) and as I cycled past him, he gave me the finger. Charming.
