punctured tubes wanted

Are you one of those 'I never repair a tube' riders?

If you are, can I have the punctured ones?

2nd Abbotsford Cubs are doing their cyclist badge and I need to teach them how to repair a puncture. That means I need about 20 old tubes of any sort to practice on. If anyone can help you can give tubes to me at Slowies or at the track most Wednesdays.

Also, are you looking for 26in mtb tubes. I imagine most young folk wouldn't have used a road bike tube, not that it matters. I'll bring them down the track this week, or pass them on at the next Saturday slowies.

I have 9. I actually patch my tubes and reuse them, so I'd want any back that survive the exercise.

Was just wondering if the thinner 700c tubes may be more difficult for the Cubs to patch than larger 26" tubes.

Another source of tubes would be the nunnery at Newtown.

I think it will be fine to return tubes, as long as you are happy for them to be patched by novices.

What would be the best way to label them? Write on them with a white marker? A loop of coloured string around them so I know whose is which?

Some of you will know that Theo collected a 'lucky door prize' this week and broke his arm. It's been a long week and here are some hints for anyone else who ends up at cas.

- line up your family members - 'if you ever have to come to hospital for me, bring spare clothes, a big book (for yourself) and an I-pod (for me)'. We were at RPA until 2.00 a.m. and for much of that time Theo was on his back in a collar. They also cut off his shirt, so it was chilly when we finally got out of there.

- ask for a CD of your x-rays (they don't take films any more). When you get the disc, open it up at home and work out how to see the images. The specialist we went to had a few clicks of the mouse, said "these almost never work" and sent us off for a complete new set of pictures.

- hospital clinics generally don't put on waterproof casts (too expensive). Paying extra at a private clinic can get you something lighter, thinner and waterproof

- If there is something you want/need to do with the broken arm, talk about it when they are putting the cast on. It is surprising how well you can be accommodated. Theo is a musician and needed a flute- and recorder-friendly cast. We took the instruments along to the physio and he looked at how Theo held them. That let him make a cast with the right angles and amount of movement to let Theo play.

For now Theo's riding is going to be limited to the trainer, but he should be back on two wheels in about six weeks.

Sorry to hear about Theo's accident. What happened?

Oops, I meant to start a new thread about Theo. I'm still getting used to this. Theo was on his way to the Borgia Centre at Steel Park. When council built the centre the put in bike racks, but NO connection to the cycleway. That means you either have to ride along Illawarra Road in the door-opening zone (where Theo was) or bounce along on the other side where there is no footpath and you have to ride through a bus shelter and across driveways into carparks. It's on the 'we'll do it if/when we get the money' list apparently.

Regarding the cubs, tube-patching night is going to be next Monday (May 19th). Mike, you said you could drop some off - I live at 92 Duntroon Street Hurlstone Park. Otherwise I'll be at the track Wednesday to gratefully accept contributions.
