You'd be the popular choice winner if you can last longer on the track stand. And my money is on you!Wow what an atmosphere... I love it. I can do the track stand but not the going fast bit.
I guess the starter failed to direct either rider to roll out...The rider on the inside of the track, unless overtaken, shall lead until reaching the pursuit
line on the opposite side of the track. A maximum of two standstills shall be
permitted for each race. The maximum period for a standstill shall be 30 seconds
following which, the leading rider shall be directed by the starter to continue. If
he fails to do so, the starter shall stop the race and declare the other rider the winner of the
heat. In a three or four-up race, the race shall be immediately rerun as a two or
three-up race, without the relegated rider.
It is all about entertainmnent. They would have been DQed at the worlds, the rules are very strict and enforced, but at six days its all about making the crowd cheer and giving them something to talk about in between beers...This was during a 6-day event, so i don't believe the organisers strictly follow the UCI rules. It is more about entertaining the crowd. For UCI events, i assume it's partly about trying to stay on schedule.
