Far out check out this racing!!
http://video.smithville.net/?p=1762
single speed, cinder track, not really a break, team event, you actually swap on the one bike! and guys couldnt jump n like this!
“This is the only kind of race that has a single gear bike, on a cinder track, where every variable can be unaccounted for. One second you’ll be in the lead and the next you’ll be on the ground. Its a thrill, its a rush, that you can’t find anywhere else”

Did anyone appreciate the cleaned up Cooks River path today? I carried my bike over the 3 week old mess 27 times before I stopped cursing the useless Canterbury council and cleaned it up myself. The broom was a write-off afterwards...

Actually Mike, the end of the world is 6pm Local Time (every where), so god will be destroying the world time zone by time zone as it strikes 6pm 21st May whereever you are.

I heard someone called Family Radio (the company owned by Harold Camping who made the prediction, the fact that he's been wrong once in the past hasn't detered him), and offered to donate $10,000.

However, he wanted a cavaet that if we were all still here on the 22nd, then he wanted his money back with 10% interest. Strangly enough, they refused.

Kinda shows that they don't believe in it themselves.

But you can pretty much prove anything from the big book of multiple choice.

by Toff
I'm still here. I'm a fundamentalist purist.

Mike, don't you mean "Spot on Terry"?

I actually don't think there is anything wrong with the bike, except that the seat is too low for the rider. I think that there is something wrong with the picture. It has been "flipped" horizontally, which you can do in the most basic of image editors. This gives the impression of the chain being on the left side. I have seen fixed gear bikes with the drivetrain on the left, but never a derailleur bike. There has never been a commercially available left-hand derailleur sold anywhere, and it is a big engineering job to make all the parts you need to run a left side drivetrain, such as reversing the direction of all the threads so that parts don't unscrew, reversing the geometry of the derailleur cage and parrallelogram, etc. Someone might be inspired to do it, but not for an old "step through" bike...

Gee his dates are inconsiderate. The first one was for Saturday Evening, halfway through the weekend, and the next is for a Friday night.

Why can't they predict it for a reasonable time, like 9am Monday morning. At least that way when you don't show up on Monday you can pull the excuse "the world was going to end, I didn't see the point of coming in"

What's really scary with this, is that a lot of his followers are still prepared to listen to him. I wonder if anyone is going to read Deutronomy 18:20
But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.

It's then that I am so glad that they have finally created a system to save me so much effort on my tired digits. Really happy to lug a heavy battery and cabling too, for the effort my fingers save...

The Japanese call these inventions 'Chindogu'.

The 10 tenents of chindogu

1. a chindogu cannot be for real use.

iIt is fundamental to the spirit of chindogu that inventions
claiming chindogu status must be, from a practical point of
view, (almost) completely useless. if you invent something
which turns out to be so handy that you use it all the time,
then you have failed to make a chindogu.
try the patent office.

2. a chindogu must exist.

you are not allowed to use a chindogu, but it must be made.
you have to be able to hold it in your hand and think:
'I can actually imagine someone using this. almost.'
in order to be useless, it must first be.

3. inherent in every chindogu is the spirit of anarchy.

chindogu are man-made objects that have broken free from
the chains of usefulness. they represent freedom of thought
and action: the freedom to challenge the suffocating historical
dominance of conservative utility; the freedom to be (almost)
useless.

4. chindogu are tools for every day life.

chindogu are a form of nonverbal communication understandable
to everyone, everywhere. specialized or technical inventions,
like a three- handled sprocket loosener for drainpipes centered
between two under-the sink cabinet door (the uselessness of
which will only be appreciated by plumbers), do not count.

5. chindogu are not for sale.

chindogu are not tradable commodities. if you accept money
for one you surrender your purity. they must not even be sold
as a joke.

6. humor must not be the sole reason for creating a chindogu.

the creation of chindogu is fundamentally a problem-solving
activity. humor is simply the by-product of finding an elaborate
or unconventional solution to a problem that may not have
been that pressing to begin with.

7. chindogu is not propaganda.

chindogu are innocent. they are made to be used,
even though they cannot be used. they should not be created
as a perverse or ironic comment on the sorry state of mankind.

8. chindogu are never taboo.

the international chindogu society has established certain
standards of social decency. cheap sexual innuendo, humor
of a vulgar nature, and sick or cruel jokes that debase the
sanctity of living things are not allowed.

9. chindogu cannot be patented.

chindogu are offerings to the rest of the world, they are not
therefore ideas to be copyrighted, patented, collected and owned.
as they say in spain, 'mi chindogu es tu chindogu'.

10. chindogu are without prejudice.

chindogu must never favor one race or religion over another.
young and old, male and female, rich and poor, all should have
a free and equal chance to enjoy each and every chindogu.
