DHBC had an ok turn up at Heffron today with Simon in A grade, Fixedgear and Myself in C and 250Tim and NickB in D. And el President Geoff made an appearance but didn't race.

I hadn't been on the bike for two weeks and was feeling and looking sluggish. El President even made a garb about my growing gut just before the race. I decided to take a page out of the JM school of racing and just bludge on the back for 15 laps straight. It was just as well as there were quite a few attacks and I did no work chasing them down. On the last lap I was expecting a big bunch sprint, but when there was an early attack only a few really chased and the field spread out. I worked my way through the field on that lap and picked up third in the sprint.

It was a good ride Adrian, there is no law that you have to do any work it just looks a bit better...

A grade was a whole new experience. I had heard that they attack a lot more than B grade but no one said the whole race was about attacking. It was just attack after attack, after attack, after attack & just when you thought that it was over, you guessed it someone decided to attack. I think it will take a few weeks to get used to the style of racing.

The funny thing is that though one man broke off the front to win, essentially the race came down to a sprint anyway. So the attacks were really just a way to fill in some time till the sprint. Very enjoyable racing, I've definitely be back to give it another crack.

What happened in D grade?

I dropped out after 4 laps also. Average speed at that point was a touch over 37km/h. holly not fit enough to keep up with that pace batman.

On geoff's last minute advice, i went to the front early to take a token turn. As i went to drop to the back a 3 man attack went at the pimples and i foolishy chased them down (in the hope of making it a 4 man break away [this is only my second race ever, you live you learn] and i watched alot of the tour this year). After that i started dropping to the back but the pace never slowed and i just could not get my breath back and eventually the legs told me where to go. So i parked it.

Spent the rest of the weekend repeating my new mantra, "more training required". Hit centenial park this morning for a quick fire 20km. near killed myself as the memory of saturdays failure was foremost on my mind. More training required.

so the average for the D Grade race was just 35.22km/h.

If you check the sprint finish picture theres only 6 that made it to the finish. Not sure of the exact numbers at the start but it felt pretty close to 20. So well over half the field was dropped.

More Training required!! :)
