Just received an email from Andrew <abaxter@cycleclassic.com.au> on Mt Annan Classics. The To address field was filled for Dulwich Hill CC.

Who is Andrew Baxter? Anyone know who this guy is? Has spammers been harvesting email addresses from our site?

It appears to be a new race added to the calender. So it looks fine. Probably went through cyclingnsw to get the word out.

Does look like a reasonable course, though distances are relatively short, but i guess not too different from Heffron distances. Just have to work out if i'll be racing it, as i don't plan to do the time trial on the sunday, but things can always change.

I think our emails addresses were harvested from here, through that email button below everyone of our posts. Maybe we should consider removing that and use PM for private comms. In any case, the system is set to notify all PMs by email. Otherwise I don't recall other web sites where MichaelChi and I are both on.

The three buttons ... 'Profile', 'PM', 'email' at the bottom of your posts.

I don't see an email button

Does anyone have the software that searches web sites for email address's? If so, run it against DHBC and see if it will find the email address's

I got the e-mail as well. Need to ask if anyone who is registered here but not licenced to race or ride (Like maybe Stuart) got the e-mail.

That will confirm whether e-mail was harvested from the site, or just sent from Cycling NSW. (I suspect Cycling NSW). I don't really care if someone sends me info on an upcoming race though.

Also, I thought the "e-mail" button only appeared under your post if you had opted to make your e-mail address public in the settings area. Since I haven't my e-mail button does not show.

I got it. the attachments are fine - Gmail's virus scanner rated them as clean, then I used the Google Docs PDF viewer to read them. It doesn't have the bugginess/flakiness of Acrobat Reader.
And yes - it is a new race, at Mt Annan.
Not sure about the Spam- I think the guy concerned also runs the Ride For life? Could be they have just grouped all DHBC entrants?

1) I now think the email button is indeed a Mod function. So at least superficially the email wasn't harvest through our forum. Yes Toff, I can see your email button. ;)

2) It's a spam because it wasn't solicited with questionable origin. There's no info on the sender in the email nor elsewhere on email domain site. The site also appeared to be poorly maintained with listing of an outdated race. Could well be spoofed too.

Email is fine. It has info about the race, including a map of the course, poster advertising the race, and a letter explaining the race (basically what should have been in the email text).
